One of the most controversial aspects of the Colombian Peace Process has been their Transitional Justice program known as the Special Jurisdiction for Peace known by the acronym JEP. To explain the agreement and the process, Major General Juan Guillermo García, currently Chief of Military Mission and Delegate of Colombia to the Inter-American Defense Board, will give a detailed presentation on the JEP. Prior to coming to Washington, General García was part of the Special Transformation Command known by the acronym COET and part of the military sub-commission that negotiated details of the Demobilization, Disarmament and Reintegration (DDR) process with their FARC counterparts. Subsequently, he was in charge of the implementation of the JEP on the COET. After General Garcia’s presentation, Adam Isacson and Steve Johnson will provide informed commentary.
